Our Story

How we started

Our founders started elago in a one room office in San Diego in 2002 with the idea that, instead of competing in the larger tech industry, we needed to fit the needs of the evolving lifestyles of convenience and tailor to tech by creating useful accessories.

As a small company we couldn’t compete with the tech giants, but we could focus on accessories and useful supporting products. They knew that tech would never be a declining industry - it would only become more innovative.

The first product elago designed and produced was the Slim Fit case for the 1st generation iPhone. The product was named after the trending fashion style of that time – the famous slim fit jeans. We knew that we needed a product name that was well known, and that people would remember.

Innovation along the years – making history

We made the M2 Stand for the iPhone in 2009, because we saw video conferencing as the next upcoming tech trend. The M2 was designed at the perfect angle to answer incoming video calls, and stream without having to hold your smartphone. Later in 2010, Apple announced FaceTime as their new program for video conferencing.

We started creating more product based on needs, such as our ID badge holders. There weren’t any useful and aesthetic ID holders in the market that we wanted our employees to use, so we created our own and even won a Reddot award in 2014 for the design of the elago ID1 USB ID Card holder! Throughout the years we received numerous Spark Design and Reddot awards for the designs of our products.

One of our favorite designs – the W3 stand for the Apple Watch was modelled after the original Macintosh personal computer. As most of our product’s are made for Apple devices, there was no better inspiration than to design a product after the vintage computer. Steve Wozniak even posted about our W3 stand and said, “They are totally fantastic, amazing how good such a simple idea can be.”

Where we are now

We are currently expanding our U.S. operations to a larger headquarter office in Carlsbad, California.  Through continuous research and designing, we work hard to keep up with current tech trends and even make some of our own.  With the passion and insight of our team, we make accessories and products that fit consumer’s needs.  We pay attention to the small stuff – make details, make history.
